Workshop Information: 

This workshop will provide an introduction to working with Certified Deaf Interpreters, CDIs. Working with CDIs is relatively new to the profession of ASL Interpreting. This workshop will provide an opportunity to explore when a CDI is needed and how to make that determination. We will discuss the "pros and cons" of working with a CDI. Teaming strategies, trust, the practicalities of hiring a CDI and the benefits to us as individuals and the profession. The goal of this workshop is to have an open dialogue in a safe learning environment. There will be opportunities for small group work, open discussions and is intended to be an interactive learning experience for all those who attend.

Presenter Biography: Terry Malcolm, CDI 

Terry Malcolm, staff Deaf interpreter for the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, has been interpreting for over 20 years in various settings, including medical, mental health, community, DeafBlind, platform, and trainings. As Coordinator for the Massachusetts Mentorship Program at DEAF, Inc., she recruited Deaf mentors to work with and help hearing interpreters expand their ASL skills and Deaf cultural knowledge. Terry has mentored both Deaf and hearing students working to become interpreters.
